April 25, 2018, the 15th Annual Indiana Conference on Cultural Competency for Behavioral Healthcare will be held at IUPUI. The conference theme is Invisible Diversity - Why It Matters which will provide insights into the cultures of communities that are often "not represented at the table" and hence invisible. The Keynote Speaker is Dr. Ashley Tuomi, who is Board President of the National Council of Urban Indian Health, the preeminent national organization addressing Native American health issues. Tuomi is a member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde in Oregon and serves as the CEO of the American Indian Health & Family Services in Michigan.

Breakout Sessions will focus on issues and needs related to:

Appalachian Culture - an understanding of which is pertinent to the healthcare of individuals with addictions and/or HIV in communities like those in and around Scott County, Indiana.

Culture of Addiction and Recovery - which will form the context for a discussion of Recovery Coach training and the benefits these Coaches provide for organizations serving individuals with addictions or who are in recovery.

Intersectionality in the LGBTQQI Community - which will provide insights into the often not discussed and invisible complexity within this diverse community.

The conference will run from 9 a.m. to 4 a.m. with check-in at 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Morning, light breakfast and lunch will be provided as well as parking vouchers.

As always, please let the CASA office know if you are attending. There could be carpooling arranged.
